Wedding advice and watching out for pitfalls

I go to a lot of weddings. I see them up close and behind the scenes and I am starting this blog to help couples avoid common issues I see reoccur over and over again. If it saves one couple a headache I will consider it a success.

The Dress

1. So much goes wrong with the dress I am going to start with it. Learn how to bustle your dress and have someone else who will be with you learn as well. Do not go to the final fitting alone, this is where you should become an expert at bustling your dress and at least one bridesmaid should as well. Every dress bustles slightly differently and you need to know how yours does before your wedding day.

2. Are you going to dance in that dress? You better make sure you can. The beautiful corset back will be stunning in photos but if it does not support your figure while dancing you will be miserable all night.

The Car

1. See and ride in the actual car you are going to rent for your wedding.  Just because the limosine out front is shinny and new doesn't mean that is the one that is going to pick you up. Have the exact car in the contract.

2. Vintage cars are very popular but they have draw backs as well. Most of the local ones have all types of poor body work including cracks in the body and shoddy workmanship. Again, you want to see the actual car you are getting. Also consider the length of the drive and weather. If you are driving an hour in summer traffic you want to make sure the car has working air conditioning and runs well.

Email

1. As you attend show cases and sign up for mailing lists remember the vendors may not remove you from those lists and may sell your information to other vendors. Make an email just for your wedding so you don't continue to get emails in your regular email address for years to come.

Person in Charge

1. Someone needs to make decisions and be the goto person for the wedding. The same person can hold your phone and be your contact point for the wedding. Pick one assertive person who you trust and let them handle the details on the day of your wedding.

Scedule

1. Print out a scedule with times and locations on it for the vendors. This will let the photo and video staff be where they need to be before all of the special moments as well as help the DJ/MC keep things moving.

Closeing Thought

Weddings are fun and they are stressful, but in the end they are all about two people celebrating their commitment to each other for the rest of their lives. When things back up and if they don't go exactly to plan try to remember it is about two people in love and everything else is window dressing.
